HR Excellence in Research Award

Lund University strives to be an attractive employer for researchers at all stages of their career. Now we have received EU’s certification, HR Excellence in Research.

What the certification means

The HR Excellence in Research certification shows that a higher education institution meets many of the EU’s strict standards for being a responsible and professional employer. It also reflects a strong commitment to ongoing quality improvement in human resources.

In the video below, Pro Vice-Chancellor Per Mickwitz and HR Director Marie Härstedt share their thoughts on what the HR Excellence in Research award means for Lund University.

The European Charter for Researchers

Lund University has adopted the European Commission’s European Charter for Researchers and its principles, which aim to:

  • improve conditions for research freedom
  • promote an open labour market for researchers
  • support access to and the exchange of knowledge

As a researcher at Lund University, you can be confident that the university is committed to upholding the Charter’s values. We actively work to fulfil the principles set out in its four main pillars:

  • ethics, integrity, gender equality, and open science
  • fair assessment, recruitment, and career progression
  • supportive working conditions and research practices
  • research career development and talent support

If you are applying for EU research funding, you can state that you are affiliated with an institution awarded the HR Excellence in Research certification.

EURAXESS – Researchers in Motion is a pan-European initiative delivering information and support services to professional researchers regardless of their career stage. Backed by the European Union and its Member States, it supports researcher mobility and career development, while enhancing scientific collaboration between Europe and the world.

Revised Action Plan 2023–2025

Until 2025, Lund University will focus on two main priority areas:

  • Clarifying career paths and strengthening talent management
We will continue to define career pathways more clearly and take a more strategic approach to recruitment and the development of research talent.
  • Promoting research ethics and responsible conduct
We aim to raise awareness and understanding of research ethics and relevant regulations, while encouraging an ethical approach at both individual and organisational levels.

GAP Analysis

Lund University has invested significant time in compiling relevant laws, regulations, policy documents, and other resources at both the university and national levels.

This work is presented in the GAP Analysis, which serves as a useful reference tool for researchers and support staff.
