Health and wellness

The University is committed to promoting health and wellbeing. We offer a range of support, including reimbursement for health-related expenses and a dedicated health promotion hour.

As an employee of Lund University, you may visit your doctor during working hours. If you receive medical treatment, you can be reimbursed for certain costs. You may also claim reimbursement for prescription medication.

Lund University supports your wellbeing by offering time for exercise during working hours up to 60 minutes per week for full-time employees. You can also be reimbursed for the cost of a gym membership or similar activity, up to SEK 1,870 per year.

Annual leave and other types of leave

You may be granted leave from work for various reasons. Some types of leave are governed by Swedish law, while others are outlined in local collective agreements.

Sweden offers generous paid leave – five weeks per year – with the right to take four weeks as a continuous holiday, which is rare internationally. At Lund University, we offer even more, as we believe in giving employees time to rest and recharge.

Your annual leave entitlement depends on your age:

  • 28 days of paid leave until the year you turn 29
  • 31 days from the year you turn 30
  • 35 days from the year you turn 40

In Sweden, you have the right to take full parental leave until your child turns 18 months old. You may also receive parental benefit for up to 480 days per child, based on three levels of compensation.

In addition, Lund University offers a parental benefit supplement, paid for a limited period.

More information is available on the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) website.

Short-term leave may also be taken without salary deductions, as outlined in the collective agreement. This includes time off for:

  • Moving house
  • Medical appointments
  • Donating blood
  • Acute dental issues
  • Graduation or exams
  • Studies (under specific conditions)

More than just work

Lund University is more than just a workplace. We also offer a range of nature and cultural experiences for employees of all ages to enjoy in their free time.
