Overview of Lund Campus buildings

Lund University's main campus is located in the city of Lund, just a 5–10 minute walk from the central railway station. It is centred around Lundagård park and Lund Cathedral.

The main university building

Location: Paradisgatan 2, Lund
Swedish name: Universitetshuset

Universitetshuset is the main building of Lund University. It was designed by architect Helgo Zettervall and opened in 1882. Inside, you will find the grand University Assembly Hall, where professorial inaugurations and other official ceremonies are held.

Palaestra et Odeum

Location: Paradisgatan 4, Lund

Palaestra et Odeum was built in 1883. Behind its façade, you can still find parts of the old orangery from the 1750s, when this site was the University’s botanical garden.

The building originally contained a fencing hall – then referred to as a gymnasium – and a music room.

The Old Surgery

Location: Sandgatan 13, Lund
Swedish name: Gamla kirurgen

The building was designed by architect Helgo Zettervall in 1867 as part of the old hospital site. The building now houses teaching rooms and offices for Lund University.

Academic society building

Location: Sandgatan 2, Lund
Swedish name: AF-Borgen

Completed in 1851. The architect was H. J. Strömberg, who designed a house specially adapted to the needs of the students. The original idea was that all members of the Academic Society could be present in the building at once.

Centre for Languages and Literature

Swedish name: Språk- och litteraturcentrum (SOL)

The Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL) houses teaching rooms, a library and a café for the humanities at Lund University.

University Library

Location: Helgonabacken 1, Lund
Swedish name: Universitetsbiblioteket (UB)

The University Library is a public research library with collections spanning more than 2,000 years. Its holdings fill over 100,000 metres of shelves.

The library preserves and manages Lund University’s historical and special collections, as well as all material printed in Sweden. It has national responsibility for deposit copies of Swedish publications.

Lundagård

Location: Kyrkogatan 15, Lund

In the early 19th century, the high walls that once enclosed Lund University were removed, opening the area to the public. This marked the beginning of Lundagård as a public park.

Today, it is the oldest park in Lund and a central meeting place for students, residents, and visitors alike.

The King’s House 

Location: Paradisgatan 2, Lund
Swedish name: Kungshuset

Kungshuset was completed in 1584 and was originally the residence of the Danish king’s sheriff. At the end of the 17th century Kungshuset became Lund University’s main building and fulfilled this function for 200 years. It also housed the University Library. At one point there was an astronomical observatory in the tower as well as an anatomical theatre.

Swedish name: Lunds domkyrka

The Cathedral was built in the 12th century after the Danish city of Lund had become the seat of the Archbishop of Scandinavia.

Since the 1990s, the Faculty of Law has been housed in the brick Swedish Telecom building from 1915.
